word of the day: bacchanalian

bacchanalian = licentious, dissolute

About two roots of this word has found entrance into the German language:
  1. The Bacchae, the temple servants of Bacchus, god of wine. This held in honor of Bacchus in Roman orgiastic parties where the noise was worshiped.
  2. A Bacchante was 17-18. Jahrhundhert being a young student. Student associations held and also keep you up booze, with just the newcomers their drinking ability to the test. The two then merged Wortherkünfte in general usage. A Bacchanalian feast is a feast on the much drinking and partying is unrestrained.
Conclusion: Even a bacchanalian feast could lead to a severe hangover. But unlike today's Bacchae Binch drinkers their alcohol excesses are not limited to ritual occasions, but just drink "until the doctor comes." Bacchanalian can not call anymore!
